THE TORONTO INDEPENDENT MUSIC AWARDS
After a recession-inspired hiatus in 2009, the Toronto Independent Music Awards is back louder and bigger than ever. We’ve got some seriously pent-up energy to release, and it’s all going down on July 23rd at the Phoenix Concert Theatre.
Canada has its fair share of Justin Beibers, Drakes, Lights, Stars, Tegans and Saras and – yes – even Nickelbacks. So where do you find these talented canucks before they blow up? The Toronto Independent Music Awards! On July 23 the TIMAs will be serving up a jumbo sized helping of fresh talent that delights the spectrum of musical tastes, from hip hop to jazz, pop to indie rock, folk to metal, and everything in between.
But beyond being an ear-busting spectacle of homegrown musical genius, the show’s loftier goal is to give back to the community. This year’s winners are set to receive more than $60,000 in industry sponsored prizes. Last year’s prizes included a digital song upload to radio stations across the nation provided by Yangaroo/DMDS, an in-store performance and song on rotation at West49 stores, photo sessions with post-production from Arkan Photography and Ajani Photography (two of the most talented photographers in the nation!) Vocal Sessions from Donna Flynn Vocal Coach, a meeting and consult with E1 Entertainment and Barry Lubotta from Phase One Studios and much more! This years prize sponsors are more involved than ever! More than just a trophy, these prizes are designed to help artists launch their careers and navigate the quickly changing landscape of the music industry. Come support our musicians, and show your love for Canadian noise.
